THE PACE OF THE LEARNING EXPERIENCE

Grade 2 students have mastered place value! Each day following their morning math drill, students have been diving into this fun math challenge. Students received one tag to hang in the correct place as they identified the place and value of each digit within a very large decimal number. The outcomes were impressive!

Grade 3 students expanded their critical thinking skills!  Students had the opportunity to think outside of the box using trial and error problem solving with our toothpick logic. With this activity, students rearranged formations into shapes using a set amount of toothpicks. For example, taking a 12-toothpick arrangement and removing four toothpicks to form one square.

Grade 5s and 6s ont travaillé en français! These students collaborated on exciting French projects that strengthened their conversational French within a real-life context. Our grade 5s focused on Aider Les Autres (Helping Others) where they created skits and poster presentations based on real life scenarios of helping other students. Our grade 6s engaged in group presentations and Q&A as the culminating activity for their On Est En Forme (Staying Healthy) unit.

Grade 9 students had hands-on exposure to organ systems in action! Students dissected perch to learn the different parts of the organism and gain real-life exposure to how these parts relate to the organism as a whole. They even explored the connection between organ systems and the ability of a living thing to adapt to its environment.

THE PACE OF HIGHER LEVEL THINKING AND PERSONAL GROWTH

Our high school students participated in an innovative and unprecedented three day conference experience – the Model UN Secondary School Interactive Crisis Simulation (SSICsim) at the University of Toronto. This annual conference challenged delegates to think critically about global issues and gave them opportunities to network with university students.

Some of our grade 10 and grade 11 students competed in the DECA North East/Private School competition at Sinclair Secondary School in Whitby. DECA is an innovative, extra-curricular program for secondary school students across North America. Through conferences and competitions, DECA instills professionalism and prepares youth to respond to authentic business cases and market demands. We are thrilled to announce that two of our students, Hannah Papoi and Arya Mane, won awards for Best Team Oral Presentation at this month’s competition, congratulations!

Thank you to all of our grade 12 parents and students who participated in our parent night. This night was an opportunity for these students and their parents to engage in a discussion with our Director, Janice Gruchy, to discuss everything from the application process for admission to university life!

THE PACE OF THE ARTS

Jingle all the way! This month our grade 4 and 5 students took their learning to the Famous People Players! They enjoyed an exciting holiday musical production along with the black light theatre experience. Students explored holiday traditions around the world all through the power of story-telling, theatre and dance. They not only participated in a Q&A session with members of the cast, but had the opportunity to dine with the founder of Famous People Players!
